The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences (SRES)
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was created in August 2017 bringing together sport and exercise sciences, physiotherapy, sports therapy and related activity. This presents exciting opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership working with external agencies including a range of health practitioners.
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy to complement the existing staff and contribute to the two very successful pre-registration physiotherapy degrees. A new physiotherapy curriculum is currently being developed with stakeholders for delivery from 2020.
Duties of the Role
We wish to develop the School's research in physiotherapy and rehabilitation and as such, you will be expected to make a significant contribution to this aspiration, along with contributing to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, primarily supporting the physiotherapy educational provision.
Candidates will be expected to produce and publish high-quality research; contribute to our research community and provide teaching and motivation to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Applicants at the Lecturer level will engage effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the Department and will produce research outputs for publication at acceptable levels of volume and academic excellence and disseminate the result of research and scholarship through appropriate Knowledge Exchange activities.
Applicants at the Senior Lecturer level will design and deliver a broad range of innovative teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will pursue research of internationally recognised importance and quality that will make a significant contribution to the University's submission to future Research Excellence Framework exercises, enhance the international profile of the University and contribute to the development of its own communities of research.
Additionally, you will generate research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms and support physiotherapy students placement learnings.
A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship) can be found within the respective job packs attached.
Skills and Qualifications required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent professional experience or practise, or for those applying at lecturer level, be close to completion. You will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate and you will also be registered as a Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
At Lecturer level, you will have evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes, experience of designing and planning learning activities, and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
At Senior Lecturer level, you will be required to provide evidence of an established and internationally recognised research profile, with a well-developed future research agenda; a sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; a record of success in generating external research income and a strong track record of published academic output at international levels of recognition with evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future REF programmes.
At both levels you will have an understanding of the current requirements for physiotherapy education and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and demonstrable experience in one or more of the following physiotherapy practice settings: paediatrics, older people, health promotion, cardiorespiratory, neurology or mental health.
Appointment to this post will be made as Lecturer (R) or Senior Lecturer (R) on a Teaching and Research (ASER) contract. Please note on your application which level you are applying for.
