The Law School is growing and seeks to build on the success of our Essex Law Clinic, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. The Law Clinic was set up to provide legal services to the local community, while also providing students with invaluable experience in developing practical legal skills and gaining knowledge of how law operates in practice. This post will increase our ability to help meet the legal need in the area of housing and/or welfare benefits law.The School is looking to expand its clinical provision with the appointment of a Lecturer (Law Clinic Legal Professional), in the area of housing and/or welfare benefits law.Duties of the RoleWorking as part of the Law Clinic Team, and based in the Essex Law Clinic, you will supervise advice and assistance provided to members of the public by student advisors, assist with their training and help develop Clinic policies, procedures and future direction. The post will involve teaching on our undergraduate law degree and the obligation to undertake marking duties as directed. In addition you will deliver and support learning activities assess and feedback to learners, participate in, build and develop internal and external networks and develop and produce learning materials and disseminate the results of scholarly activity.A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Scholarship and Professional Practice and Leadership and Citizenship) can be found within the job pack.Skills and Qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will have relevant experience of advice and casework in housing law and/or welfare benefits and the ability to supervise cases and advice in those areas. You will be passionate about promoting access to justice and developing a new generation of Lawyers willing and able to take on this role. You will have fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate and will have a relevant doctoral level degree in Law or equivalent professional experience or practise. Substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support, and the ability to lead on community liaison and develop appropriate relationships with relevant local organisations to facilitate Law Clinic projects in the community are essential for this post.Please note that this is a permanent, full-time post on an ASE (teaching) contract and the expected start date is 1 September 2019 or as close to this thereafter.At the University of Essex, internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
