Job description
Department of Government
The Department of Government at Essex are world leaders in political science, ranked top in the UK for research excellence (REF2014), 5th for politics in the UK (The Times Good University Guide 2018), top 10 in the world for political science and international relations according to the Centre for World University Rankings (2018),

Duties of the Role
The Departmental Administrative and Finance Assistant will support the Departmental Manager with the efficient and smooth running of the Department's finances and will be responsible for high quality general administrative support within the department. This role will be a key contact within the department, faculty and with wider professional services teams across the University.
Duties will include but are not limited to: monitoring the department's cost codes and budgets, raising purchases orders, dealing with staff expense claims and general administrative duties. The post holder will be required to adhere to the University's Finance Regulations and confidently advise colleagues in relation to these regulations.

Qualifications and Skills required
A minimum of 5 GCSE's at grades A-C (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English is essential to the role.
Applicants are required to have relevant and recent administrative experience in a busy office environment and experience of using the Microsoft office software particularly Outlook, Excel and Word.
With highly developed organisations skills, the successful candidate will have the ability to process information quickly in a changing environment whilst working accurately and managing multiple priorities. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and function well as part of a friendly team. Flexibility and the capacity to exercise initiative appropriately are essential attributes for this post.
This is a permanent, part-time post for 21 hours per week. Whilst specific days and hours are to be negotiated, the working pattern must include Monday working.
