The Institute for Analytics and Data Science (IADS)
The Institute for Analytics and Data Science (IADS) seeks to appoint a full-time Research Fellow, on a pathway to permanency, to start on 1st of May 2023 or soon thereafter to support the Institute’s work in data science, analytics, and related areas.
This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious researcher to add to the Institute’s capability to undertake world class research and development work as well as open up and develop new research activities in this area that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and professional candidates who have excellent knowledge of data science, analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning. We expect the methodological focus to be discipline or domain relevant. For example, analytics in life sciences.
Duties of the Role
During the period of the Fellowship the postholder will undertake research, teaching (to build skills and experience) and administrative duties. This is to provide a good foundation in higher education practice for the Fellow to be able to take a permanent Lectureship that covers the full range of academic duties at a higher level.
The post is fixed term as a Research Fellow at salary grade 8 for three years in the first instance. It is fixed term for a period of career development in order for the successful candidate to be in a position to be appointed to a permanent Lectureship (at grade 9) in the relevant substantive academic Department or School at the University of Essex at the end of the Fellowship.

Skills and Qualifications required
The successful candidates will have excellent publications record and have evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity, and a developing research profile. Applicants are required to have a PhD IN Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Economics, Business, Social Sciences, Life Sciences or other related discipline to the applicants research focus or be close to the completion of a PhD (writing up or under examination).
They will ideally have experience of successfully delivering teaching or demonstrable potential for achieving this, excellent communication and presentation skills, and programming skills in data science programming languages as appropriate for the area of research.
