The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise SciencesSports and Exercise Science has two research groups: SPF (Sports Performance & Fatigue) and HEAL (Health Exercise and Active Lifestyle). These groups have international expertise in pacing and competitive performance in middle-distance and endurance sports, training physiology, gait biomechanics, biomedical optics, disability & Paralympic sport, performance enhancing drugs, leadership, social support, green exercise, paediatric exercise science, cardiovascular health and rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be expected to make a major contribution to the SPF research group and contribute to the work of our Human Performance Unit (HPU). The HPU provides assessment and monitoring as well as advice on training and nutrition to athletes from the local community and from within the University, including several of Olympic standard.
The University is investing in new infrastructure in performance and coaching and has developed national excellence in our focus sports of basketball and volleyball. The new sports centre, opening 2017/18, will incorporate multiple fixed and mobile HD cameras for analysing sports performance. There are also opportunities to build on existing collaborations within the University's research community. These include: Centre for Brain Science; School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering; School of Biological Sciences; and the Institute for Social and Economic Research.The Role and DutiesWe are seeking to appoint a Lecturer with expertise in Sports Performance Analysis and/or Motor Control, Learning & Development to play a key role in developing further our international research and education profile in applying sports science to enhance athletic performance.
The duties of the post will include conducting high quality research, supervising postgraduate students, obtaining research funding, teaching, delivering and developing the BSc. in Sports Performance and Coaching and supporting the work of the Human Performance Unit and the University's focus sports programme. Alongside teaching and research, the post will also include administrative duties.Qualifications and Skills requiredApplicants must hold a PhD and have a track record of relevant research or be close to completion if relevant teaching experience in the areas of Sports Perfomance and Motor Control. Sport and Exercise Science had a successful inaugural submission to the HEFCE Research Excellence Framework 2014, where we were ranked in the top 20% nationally for research intensity. Successful applicants will be expected to make a significant contribution to the delivery and underpinning research of our new Sports Performance and Coaching degree (first intake October 2016).
Experience of teaching subjects related to sports performance analysis and/ or motor control is essential. Expertise and/or willingness to develop expertise in the areas of sports performance analysis and motor control is also required.
