To further develop our current teaching, research and partnership activities at Essex Business School, we are seeking to make an appointment in the field of Business Analytics or advanced analytics. This key appointment will play a vital role in enhancing the School's research profile, developing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and
extending the School's profile regionally, nationally and internationally.
The Management Science and Entrepreneurship (MSE) Group at Essex Business School has an international reputation for its cutting edge research. This appointment is intended to build further upon this reputation by contributing to the range of teaching offered and strengthening the research profile of the MSE Group, promoting Essex Business School as one of the premier business schools in the UK.
The post holder will be required to fully contribute to the development of the MSE group through his/her work in business analytics, and will play an important role in the development of the teaching, research, development and administration activities of the Essex Business School and the MSE Group at Southend. A specialism in any one of the areas of business analytics, for example business analytics for managers and entrepreneurs will constitute the post holder's critical area of teaching and research expertise.
Duties of the Role
The purpose of this post is to enhance the School's research profile in the field of Business Analytics and Quantitative Analysis; teach undergraduate and postgraduate Business Analytics and Quantitative Analysis and supervise research students; and extend the School's profile regionally, nationally and internationally through activities such as publishing in top peer-reviewed journals and presenting papers at prestigious conferences.
Duties will include developing a research agenda within or closely linked to the area of business analytics which pursues individual and/or collaborative research, undertaking research activity (resulting in internationally excellent publications) that is in keeping with REF criteria; engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School; contributing to the design, planning and delivering of modules and programmes of study in creative and innovative ways; and to supervise and mentor postgraduate research students. As part of your research you will be expected to generate external research funding, including in collaboration with colleagues, appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.
The post-holder will undertake a full range of Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship responsibilities as detailed in the Lecturer (ASER) job pack.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral level research degree in Management Science or Business Analytics or be close to completion of PhD.
Evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile, with a clear publication plan for submission to future REF programmes is essential, as is proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this. In addition, you will possess knowledge of advance quantitative methods, and/or econometrics and/or advance analytics. You should have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to be able to disseminate knowledge and research to the wider academic community.
Ideally you will have experience of generating income to support research and/or knowledge exchange appropriate to your career stage and discipline norms.
Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
