Covering a multitude of services, we are available to assist with any issue concerning the University estate and facilities, safety, security and welfare of student's staff and visitors to campus.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability (Travel and Transport) Officer to join our growing Sustainability team at the University of Essex. Duties of the roleThe Sustainability (Travel and Transport) Officer will play a key role within the Sustainability team for overseeing, administering and developing all aspects of travel and transport at the University. You will work closely with both the Parking Administrator and the Sustainability (Environment and Transport) Manager, to ensure that access to, and around the University's campuses by alternative forms of transport is facilitated for students, staff and visitors. Responsibilities will include:* Assist with the production of and administer the implementation of the University's Travel Plan.* Administration of the University's Vehicle Fleet policy.* Oversee the appropriate location and suitability of cycle parks, cycle routes, bus stops, taxi ranks, car parks and related signage.* Coordinate the update of all travel and transport related information as required, including web information and signs and notices; ensuring information is updated along with University changes to the rules and adhering to legislation.* Liaise with local authorities public transport providers and partner organisations as required.* Establish communication links with the University community in order to solicit discussion and feedback.* Assist in the measuring and monitoring of carbon emissions generated by the University's travel and transport related activities.Skills and qualifications requiredThe role will require a forward thinking individual who can develop initiatives to reduce the number of private car journeys to and from our campuses and continually research, implement and promote new schemes to promote and facilitate the use of alternative forms of transport. You will be required to have:* GCSE's Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics and 3 other subjects.* Experience of working in a similar role and within an office environment.* Experience of dealing with challenging situations.* Experience of creating and working on travel plans.* Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
