Academic SectionThe Academic Section is part of the University's Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. The Section plays a central role in delivering the University's commitment to excellence in education across the institution through the development and implementation of the University's Education Strategy, including the annual Education Action Plans, leading the delivery of University-wide projects and the development, review and implementation of effective policy in support of the University's academic mission. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.Working in partnership with the Academic Registrar's Office, the main directorates of the Academic Section are: Academic Services and Student Life. The Student Life directorate draws together key elements of the student experience, particularly those relating to the educational aspects of student life and student success. This includes Student Support (including wellbeing, accessibility services, residence life, student finance, chaplaincy, the Student Services Hubs), Employability and Careers and Student Engagement.Duties of the RoleAs part of the Student Funding Team, the Funding Adviser will play a key role in ensuring that the team delivers a high quality, proactive, consistent and efficient advice service to students. You will contribute towards the delivery of a pro-active and professional service responsive to the needs of students of the University by offering initial advice and information to students, staff and other enquirers, in person by email and telephone, as well as providing a range of administrative functions.You will provide expert advice to students on a range of funding and money issues across all three of our campuses as well as administers and assess applications to the Student Hardship Fund. You will be required to maintain accurate records of student enquiries, carry out follow-up casework, maintain specialist knowledge of the range of student finance available and have an awareness of entitlement criteria for students who may qualify for welfare benefits.Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will be educated to A-Level or NVQ level 3 or will have substantial equivalent experience. Experience of working with students in higher education is essential along with experience in giving first line advice and knowledge of existing student statutory financial support arrangements.You will be able to work creatively and flexibly to resolve problems using new ideas and ways of working, giving students at all of our campuses excellent customer service.
