The Accounting Group at Essex Business School has established strengths in conducting world class research in accounting from an interdisciplinary perspective. The research efforts of the Group are structured within the Essex Accounting Centre, the Centre for Accountability and Global Development, and the University-wide Centre for Environment and Society. The Group is leading nationally and internationally on research into accounting in emerging economies, while being at the centre of the key international public sector accounting research networks.
We are currently seeking to appoint at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader level to strengthen and expand our teaching and research activities in any area of accounting. All appointments would be on a teaching and research (ASER) contract.
Duties of the Role
Duties at Lecturer level will include effective engagement in substantive teaching and learning support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post-holder will also carry out research activities that will as a minimum meet the University’s expectations for future Research Exercise Framework (REF) exercises.
Duties at Senior Lecturer/Reader will include curriculum development and effective engagement in substantive teaching and learning support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post-holder will also carry out research activities that will as a minimum meet the University’s expectations for future Research Exercise Framework (REF) exercises and provide effective research leadership. At Reader level, the post-holder will provide leadership in ensuring own research and that of others in the Group/School generates impact beyond the academic sphere in keeping with the REF criteria
At any level, you will be expected to generate research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.

Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants should have a PhD in Accounting or specialism related to the area of the post (or be close to completion if applying at Lecturer level). Applicants will also need to have evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises.
Applicants at Lecturer level will have proven experience of teaching at both undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels or demonstrable potential to achieve this. Applicants will also have evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
Applicants at Senior Lecturer/Reader level will have a sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also have an established and internationally recognised research profile, with a well-developed future research agenda and a record of success in generating external research income appropriate in scale to disciplinary norms and career stage.
