An exciting new position of Team Leader (Indoor and outdoor facilities) has been created within Essex Sport with a focus on achieving excellent customer service standards throughout our facilities. Candidates will have a high-quality work ethic with experience of working within a multifaceted sporting environment.

Facilities include the Essex Sport Arena, a 1,600-seat spectator venue, opened in 2018 and host to events such as professional netball and basketball matches, as well as a huge variety of community activities and events. The Essex Sport Gym has around 6,000 students, staff and public members and boasts industry leading equipment and online customer engagement platforms. Our outdoors facilities has one of the largest tennis domes of its type in the country, and synthetic and natural turf pitches accommodate a wide range of sports. Our staff are committed and passionate about improving people’s lives through sport and physical activity.
Duties of the Role
The Team Leader (Indoor and Outdoor Facilities) will assist the on-shift Duty Managers in ensuring that sports facilities and activities are operated and delivered in accordance with the required high standards of customer service. The Team Leader will assist with the line management of Sports Assistants. The role will maintain a high degree of visibility throughout the facility proactively managing facilities and activities and resolving customer queries. The Team Leader will deputise for the Duty Manager when required, including on a regular basis on weekend shifts.
The Team Leader (Indoor and Outdoor Facilities) will also assist the Duty Manager (Indoor Facilities) and Duty Manager (Outdoor Facilities) in ensuring sports facilities are operated and maintained to a high standard.
Skills and qualifications required
As a Team Leader, you will have experience working within a sports environment and working large multifaceted sporting events. You will have the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve outstanding customer service throughout all sports facilities. A high quality work ethic and attention to detail is a must.
The Team Leader must have excellent communication skills both verbally and written and ability to engage and build strong relationships with key internal and external partnerships and stakeholders. We are looking for strong team players who work well within a team but have the ability to work independently.
Applicants will have a Level 2 fitness qualification and have a good knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations. Desirable attributes would also include experience working with a leisure management system, a relevant leisure management qualification (BTEC or level 3) and have an in date first aid certificate.
