Our aim is to deliver a food service standard which reflects and supports the University's core values of excellence, quality, creativity and diversity across the full range of catering facilities our in-house team provides.
Due to growth on our Colchester campus, we are looking to recruit into several new roles to join our team based at University of Essex, recently voted University of the Year.
Duties of the role
As Catering Development Manager, you will ensure the provision of food and beverages is to the highest standard, within the financial limitations set. You will comply with all company policies and regulations in regards to health, safety and environmental management at work, including the highest standards of kitchen practice and hygiene.
You will be responsible for the development of new concepts, menus and recipes, Quality assurance, stay up to date with industry trends, analysing training needs of chefs and to implement a healthy eating initiative on campus. You will have the responsibility for delivering excellent customer service, maintaining operational standards, maximising sales opportunities and driving financial performance.
Appointment to this post will be made on a permanent, full-time basis (38 hours per week). You will work 5 out of 7 days, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends. This will predominantly be Monday - Friday (7.6 hours per day), however you will need to be flexible to accommodate for business requirements.

Qualifications and Skills required
It is essential that you have a Level 3 Food Hygiene and also a Food Industry management qualification. You will need excellent communication skills and a can do attitude to help co-ordinate and advise our catering teams.
In order to be successful, you will have experience in a senior kitchen management role, with a proven track record of leadership, and managing in a catering capacity. You will have experience of budget preparation and financial management and control. It is essential that you have extensive knowledge of relevant statutory regulations within the catering industry.
A strong focus of team leading, support and development is key to the role, together with a strong creative focus on implementation of new concepts and service provision.
If you are methodical in your approach to work, and have good IT skills this may be an ideal job for you.
