Department
The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and dynamic department in the Faculty of Science and Health. The School is internationally known for its research in a range of areas and offers an excellent education to its students. We are rapidly growing due to increasing student numbers and now wish to appoint an exceptional
individual at either Reader or Professorial level in the area of Computational Finance and Economic Agents.
Candidates should state clearly on their covering letter whether they are applying for the position of Reader or Professor, and demonstrate how they meet the criteria for that particular role.
Duties of the Role
The successful candidate will act as Director for the Centre for Computational Finance and Economic Agents overseeing its development, operation and strategic growth. They will also act as lead for the Artificial Intelligence for Decision Making research group. The AI for Decision Making group aims to understand and build systems which model, support or nudge decision making of autonomous entities (be they humans or software agents). Research ranges from the theoretical modelling of decision making to the design and implementation of software systems deployed in the real world. More specifically, the group expertise loosely aligns with its three founding labs; Analytics and Data Science, Computational Finance & Economic Agents, and Games & AI. We regularly publish at top venues of AI and theoretical computer science. The successful candidate will develop strategic links with appropriate financial bodies and companies in order to provide clear impact on the world of finance, both in terms of graduate employment, and impact. Candidates with a clear track record of developing such links should make this clear in their application.
For Candidates Applying for the Position of Reader
You will contribute to delivery of excellence in education through successful and sustained engagement in curriculum development, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and research supervision at both an individual and strategic level.
You will engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity resulting in internationally excellent publications in keeping with REF criteria, and provide research leadership that will enhance the profile of the School. You will also be expected to generate research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.
For Candidates Applying for the Position of Professor
You will engage in curriculum development, deliver teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and research supervision at both an individual and strategic level. You will be expected to provide strategic leadership in education which will make a significant contribution to the development of student learning at the University, and build a sustained and effective record of impact at strategic level in regards to learning and teaching.
You will engage in collaborative research activity resulting in internationally excellent publications in keeping with REF criteria and provide research leadership enhancing the research profile of the School and wider University. You will pursue research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, provide leadership ensuring your own research and that of others in the School generates impact beyond the academic sphere in keeping with REF criteria, and enhance the scholarly reputation of the School by contact with the wider community and the dissemination of knowledge via public communication and other activities. You will also be expected to generate research income appropriate in scale to your career stage.
At both Reader and Professor levels you will also contribute to the administration and management of the School, and to its local, regional and international profile.
Appointment will be made either as Reader or Professor.
Skills and qualifications required
You will be expected to hold a relevant doctoral level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice, and hold a distinguished academic record including internationally excellent research.
You will also hold Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or demonstrate the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
In addition, for the role of Professor you will demonstrate appropriate markers of academic esteem and credibility and/or professional recognition.
