The Director of Research Training is an important leadership post within the University. The post holder works closely with the Dean of Postgraduate Research and Education to ensure that the University provides a skills and professional development programme for its research students and contract researchers that contribute to their ongoing personal and professional development. The Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Research Training) takes the strategic lead on the further development and enhancement of Proficio, the University's postgraduate research skills programme, working closely with colleagues in all faculties, departments and Professional Services. They also deputise for the Dean of Postgraduate Research Education and act as a senior academic representative of the University on research training matters, both internally and externally.
The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and understanding of national and international agendas and policy developments relating to learning and teaching in higher education, as well as experience of academic regulations, policies and procedures within the University. You will be able to demonstrate confident leadership skills and the ability to engage with a wide and varied portfolio, together with the ability to develop and implement innovative approaches and/or projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, including the ability to influence, consult and build effective working relationships with staff at all levels.
The post is normally for a fixed term of 3 years.
The post is a 60% appointment, with 20% of the post-holder's time allocated to continuing to supervise doctoral students and, where appropriate, delivering master's teaching and 20% to maintaining and developing their research career.
