Essex Business School (EBS)Essex Business School is undertaking a major expansion of its teaching and research activities, and accordingly is seeking to make an additional appointment, a Lecturer or a Senior Lecturer in Tourism. Essex Business School is accelerating its growth and development at its Southend Campus and is establishing a Centre focussing on International Business, Logistics and Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship and Tourism. Regionally, the Centre will engage with SMEs in the region, the ports in Felixstowe, Harwich and London Gateway and the airports at Southend and Stansted, as well as the international linkages that these important sites offer.
The Management Science and Entrepreneurship (MSE) Group at Essex Business School has an international reputation for its cutting edge research. This appointment is intended to build further upon this reputation by contributing to the range of teaching offered and strengthening the research profile of the MSE Group, promoting Essex Business School as one of the premier business schools in the UK.
The Role and DutiesEntrepreneurship, tourism, international business and strategy, logistics and supply chain, business analytics and marketing are key components of the work of the MSE Group. The post holder will be required to fully contribute to the development of the MSE group through their work in tourism, and will play an important role in the development of the teaching, research, development and administration activities of the Essex Business School and the MSE Group at Southend. A specialism in any one of the areas of tourism, for example tourism operations/ internationalisation of tourism products and operations/ event management will constitute the post holder's critical area of teaching and research expertise.
The post-holder should be able to demonstrate the ability to undertake teaching, supervision and development activities in the field of tourism (and related issues) at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels; a critical understanding of current research in tourism and related areas, and the ability to undertake independent research in one or more of these areas; and the ability to make an administrative contribution at the Group/ School level.
Qualifications and Skills requiredThe post-holder at both levels (Lecturer and Senior Lecturer) will hold a PhD in Tourism or specialism related to the area of the post.
At Lecturer level you will need to have evidence of a sophisticated research agenda in Tourism or Hospitality and of research publications of peer-reviewed international quality; proven experience in teaching tourism and related areas; demonstrable experience of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; demonstrable potential to generate external funding; and possess a willingness to contribute to the expansion plans of the department in relation to tourism.
At Senior Lecturer level you will be expected to demonstrate experience and knowledge in all of the above in addition to experience of PhD supervision; demonstrating a significant portfolio to include a well-established track record of high quality (ABS 3*/4* level) publications in leading refereed journals; a proven track record of raising research funds and managing research projects; proven experience in managing academic programmes; staff management and leadership skills; and the ability to support the teaching and learning experience of all academic colleagues in a higher education environment.
