University of Essex
Council Members
We are a university where curiosity prevails, and where exploring new ways of thinking and pushing boundaries, isn't just encouraged, it's expected. We are committed to two things: excellence in teaching and excellence in research. Our students are members of a unique, transformational living and learning community which empowers them with the skills to make a difference to the world around them. We are looking for new members of our University's governing body to join our community and help shape our future success.
In evaluating progress against our ambitions, we are proud to be Gold rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2017. We're also in the top 20 for research excellence in the Research Excellence Framework 2014, top 15 in England for student satisfaction (National Student Survey 2017) and ranked as the 15th most international university in the world (Times Higher Education April 2017). Financially we are operating from a position of strength, with continued growth in our annual surplus, ongoing investment in our world-class estate and an annual contribution to the UK economy of over GBP 500m.
To maintain our competitive edge, during a period of unprecedented change for the higher education sector, we need to continue to think and act in different ways. We are therefore seeking to enhance further the expertise and diversity of our University Council, our principal governing body, through the recruitment of new Council Members. We are seeking outstanding individuals with the requisite intellectual capacity, commercial acumen and strategic leadership experience to support us in shaping our transformational agenda.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to our future direction of travel during a rapidly changing global environment. We are home to the curious, brave and bold. If you share our passion and have the skills and experience we seek, we would be keen to hear from you.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
