IT ServicesA new opportunity has arisen for a High Performance Computing Service Coordinator at the University of Essex. We are looking for a specialist to be the technical and service lead to meet the evolving high performance computing requirements of both academic and research staff particularly in the areas of computational modelling, data analysis and machine intelligence. The appointment of this post comes at an exciting and critical time for the development of this service for the University.The Role and DutiesThe successful applicant will work closely with University clients, third party suppliers and colleagues within IT Services to establish effective and efficient operation of the University HPC solution. The post holder will be the technical and service lead in the development, maintenance and support of a wide range of industry standard, and proprietary HPC tools and technologies that support the reliable, efficient, and secure running of the University HPC service.Qualifications and Skills requiredApplicants must hold a degree in computational science or engineering or have equivalent professional experience. A PhD in a computational research field or equivalent professional experience in an R&D development environment is desirable.Along with excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate advanced technical concepts to non-specialist audiences, you will have proven system administration and programming skills and experience in the use and configuration of cloud computing systems.The post is based at the Colchester campus, but occasional travel to the other campuses in Loughton and Southend may be required.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
