The DepartmentThis is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) at the University of Essex. CSEE is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. CSEE is international known for its research in a range of areas. In particular, our research is organised around two main themes: communications (for example, networking, future networks, wireless communications, multimedia communications and optical networks) and artificial intelligence (including assistive technologies, brain-computer interfaces, computer games, evolutionary computation, human language technology and robotics). CSEE department is known for its excellent education to its students. The School is currently expanding and now wishes to appoint additional lecturers to help us grow.Duties of the postWe wish to enhance the School's existing research in the broad area of Network security as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. The duties of the post will include carrying out a programme of independent research in the areas of network security, computer security, networking, and cyber-security leading to the publication of research articles or other research outputs, which can be returned under the Research Excellence Framework. The candidate is expected to attract funding to develop their research programme. The post also includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in electronic engineering and computer science, and in particular, teaching on network security, computer security, networking (including CCNA related modules), and cyber-security courses at both undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. This may include delivering existing modules, developing new ones and generally enhancing our research-led teaching. We aim for excellence in research as well as in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both. Candidates will have advanced knowledge on one or more of the following: Network security, Networking, Data security, and Cyber-security. Exceptional candidates in other areas related to network security will also be considered.Qualifications and Skills requiredApplicants should have a PhD in Electronic Engineering/Computer Science or related discipline; or the expectation of a PhD qualification prior to the start of the appointment. You should also have a good degree in Computer Science/Electronic Engineering or related discipline as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (UKPSF D2) (attained via a recognised higher education teaching qualification, e.g. a postgraduate certificate in HE practice, or by an appropriate accredited process) or the commitment to gain such recognition by the end of their probationary period.
