Our vision is of a University where students and staff are actively supported in their endeavours to excel in creating, managing, communicating, and exploiting information by using information technology facilities and services that are user-centred, flexible, accessible, and resilient.Innovation and Technology Solutions, a section of over 100 staff, is organised in four main operational service groups - Client Services, Infrastructure, Corporate Information Systems (CIS), and Strategic Projects.These posts are based in the Business Intelligence (BI) team within the CIS group, which is responsible for the University's information systems that underpin learning, teaching, research, and administration. Ensuring the availability, integrity, and security of the University's information assets is vital to the smooth running of these systems.Duties of the RoleThese posts present an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the delivery of the University's strategic plan by providing timely and accurate data insight. You will work as an integral member of the Business Intelligence team within Innovation and Technology Solutions to enhance and support our BI service, which is bringing information together into a central data warehouse, supplying it to our stakeholders, and providing tools to visualise and analyse this data in order to support more joined up decision making. For this, the role demands excellent understanding of the use of complex data, preferably within higher education, and of the challenges of cleaning, storing, and securing such information in BI systems.You will play a significant part in data extraction and integration, and analysis to facilitate the production of management information to support the delivery of the strategic objectives within the Learner Analytics project, the Education Strategy and the Research Strategy.A full list of duties can be found in the jobpack.Skills and Qualifications requiredThe successful candidates will possess a degree or equivalent qualification or experience within a similar organisation and will have experience of database organisation, management and interrogation. You will require excellent data analysis and problem solving skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. The successful candidates will also have proven programming experience in a variety of different areas in a modern development environment. Working as part of a team, you will take ownership of the various systems and supplier relationships used by the Business Intelligence function (including, but not limited to, Tableau server).Please note we have a permanent and fixed-term post available.
