DepartmentThe Department of Language and Linguistics (DLL) has 37 full-time academic members of staff and provides a broad spectrum of expertise in the study of language and in the practical teaching of modern foreign languages. Its core ambition is to offer students a transformative educational experience in these areas underpinned by high quality research. The majority of research conducted in the department is rated 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', placing us 8th among departments in the UK for research quality (REF 2014).
Our linguistics expertise covers Theoretical and Descriptive linguistics, Applied linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, TESOL and Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling. We offer a wide range of languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese that can be taken at degree level from beginners to advanced levels following the Common European Languages Framework.
The department is now seeing to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Spanish.
Duties of the RoleThe appointed candidate will contribute to all aspects of the provision of Spanish language teaching level at undergraduate level. Duties will include the teaching and development of modules and courses, design and administration of assessment tools, supervision of UG and PGT projects/dissertations.

Qualifications and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level degree (or be in the final stages of completion of PhD studies) and will have fellowship of Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level. Qualifications in translation, interpreting and/or subtitling would be an advantage.
You will have experience of working independently in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, an ability to provide teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways, along with a sustained engagement in continuing professional development in relevant subjects/disciplines and their pedagogies.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential for this post, along with proven ability to collaborate with colleagues on course development, curriculum changes and module delivery.
This is a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) role on an ASE contract (teaching only), starting 1st September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
