The Electrical Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and organising the electrical trades to carry out on-site maintenance, electrical installations, installation inspection and testing and portable appliance testing associated with the building services, plant and equipment in all of the premises owned and operated by the University of Essex.
On a daily basis, the Electrical Supervisor will manage the electricians at Chargehand and Craftsperson levels and organise their work to ensure maximum efficiency. This includes coordinating and prioritising electrical work programmes to ensure the service provides a safe efficient customer focused service which is robust and adaptable to change. The post holder will be expected to become an Authorised Person (AP) for working upon electrical systems in accordance with the University of Essex LV policy.
The successful post holder will have a recognised and registered CITB or EITB apprenticeship (or equivalent) and an NVQ in Installing and Commissioning Electrical Systems and Equipment at level 3 (or equivalent). It is essential that the successful candidate can demonstrate significant and relevant electrical experience, with previous experience as a Supervisor or Chargehand. Additionally, the successful candidate must have experience of working with the installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical services and a good working knowledge of the regulations.
Hours of work are 36 hours per week, to be worked over a shift system of 7am - 7pm. Weekend working is expected to be 1 weekend in 6 but flexibility is required. The post holder will be expected to cover the 'on-call' rota, which is anticipated to be I week in 12.
