***Internal Applicants Only***
Applications are invited from colleagues for the role of Faculty Dean (Undergraduate) in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. Join the Faculty team to help shape our approach to undergraduate education across the seven departments of the Faculty.
Working closely with, among others, the Executive Dean Arts & Humanities (Professor Andrew Le Sueur), the Pro Vice-Chancellor Education (Professor Madeline Eacott) and Heads and Directors of Education in the departments, the role involves supporting departments in the Faculty in their missions to provide excellence in education at undergraduate level in line with the University Strategic Plan and Education Strategy. This requires strong focus on key performance indicators (including NSS) and contributions to the University’s autumn and spring planning processes.
The Faculty Dean Undergraduate deputises for the Executive Dean when required, including chairing some academic appointments panels.
In accordance with Ordinance 8, the role is open to Senior Lecturers, Readers and Professors who are current members of staff at the University of Essex. We are not able to consider applications from external candidates. Appointment, which is subject to approval by Senate and Council, will be for an initial period of three years. The anticipated start date is 1 January 2022.
Typically, Mondays to Thursdays are focused on Faculty work. There may be occasional evening work (for example, attending events). Generally, Fridays are available for research or scholarship linked to your home department. The departments of the Faculty span all three campuses (Colchester, Loughton and Southend); the post is based on the Colchester campus, with occasional travel to the others. During 2021-22, the Faculty team is working to a hybrid model; you should expect to be on campus one or two days a week, working from home the rest of the time. You will have an office, shared with another Faculty Dean, in the Rab Butler Building.
The role holder receives an annual leadership allowance of £6,000 in additional to their salary.
Please complete the short on-line application form, which includes some standard questions, and attach the following documents.
