The School of Biological Sciences
The School of Biological Sciences is large and diverse and provides a vibrant research and teaching environment with a strong collegiate culture. We have a global reputation for our research: two-thirds of our research was rated as 'world leading' or 'international excellent' in REF 2014. We conduct research in six main
areas comprising: Cancer and Stem Cell Biology; Genomics and Computational Biology; Ecology and Environmental Microbiology; Protein Structure and Function; Plant Productivity. Our infrastructure and facilities match our ambitions to carry out excellent research.
The School of Biological Sciences comprises in the region of 900 students supported by over 100 academic, research and support staff. We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Genetics, and Marine Biology. We champion research-led education, where teaching is informed by our research and students develop analytical, laboratory and field based skills. Our aim is to provide a challenging and rewarding environment for both our students and staff.

Duties of the role
The School of Biological Sciences is looking to recruit a part time technician to join a small team of staff who work in its Core Services facilities.
This team provides a service to all laboratories within the School of Biological Sciences where apparatus is cleaned and sterilised, sterile media are prepared and biological waste is sterilised prior to disposal.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants should be well organised, with familiarity with basic IT systems and of working as part of a team. Previous experience of the provision of similar sterile services or waste disposal is desirable.
