Make Happen is a collaboration between a group of Higher Education (HE) Institutions, Further Education (FE) Institutions, schools, Local Authorities and charities with a single purpose - to raise aspirations and widen participation in higher education throughout Essex.
Duties of the Role
We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Collaborative Outreach Assistant to work as part of the Make Happen team, where you will be remotely based at University of Essex Colchester Campus. You will represent the partners of the programme in outreach activities, to support the delivery of on campus activities as well as activities within targeted schools and colleges. The role will be part of an Essex wide team with a central team in Colchester.
You will deliver presentations, and organise and deliver outreach events, for Level 2 and 3 college students and parents/carers and teachers, on issues relating to progression to HE, including university and higher and degree apprenticeships.
The Collaborative Outreach Assistant post will be based at University of Essex Colchester Campus, and it is full-time, fixed term until 31 July 2021.
Skills and Qualifications required
The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent level qualification, with preferably training in Child Protection/Safeguarding.
In order to be successful, you will need experience in working on education projects, activities or events, and experience of working with diverse groups of young people. You will have experience of public speaking, preferably to schools/colleges, whilst demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It is important that you have a flexible and adaptable approach to working patterns when necessary, as well as having the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
As a Collaborative Outreach Assistant for Make Happen you will be organised, self-motivated and have the ability to deliver inspirational communications to a range of audiences. You will have previous experience working with young people and delivering educational activities.
Due to the requirements of the post, you will have the willingness to travel within the Eastern Region and to work outside normal office hours when required. This appointment is subject to a criminal record check, known as a Disclosure.
