The Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies (PPS) is recognised internationally as one of the leading Departments for work that focuses on the role of the unconscious mind in mental health, culture and society and the many psychosocial factors which influence our lives.
We are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in the field of Jungian
Studies to support and develop our internationally recognised programmes. This is a permanent, part-time role for 14.4 hours per week starting on 1 August 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. You will take up a teaching and module leadership role on our MA in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies, and our BA Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies.
Duties of the Role
The purpose of this role is to take up a role in delivering and developing the taught programmes MA in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies, and BA Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies. To conduct high quality research and contribute to the Department's outstanding research profile. In time, to take up a key role in the Department.
Duties will include teaching on the MA Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies, and the BA Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies; supervising and supporting UG and MA students in their research projects; and conducting high quality research leading to publications in peer reviewed international journals, and contribute the requisite number of high quality peer reviewed items to PPS' submission to the Sociology panel in REF 2021.
Key responsibilities at this level involve contributing to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; engaging in individual and/or collaborative research activity (resulting in internationally excellent publications) that is in keeping with REF criteria; generating external research funding, including in collaboration with colleagues, appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms; and enhancing the scholarly reputation of the Department and the University by contact with the wider academic community and the dissemination of knowledge via public communication and other activities.
The post-holder will undertake a full range of Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship duties as detailed in the Lecturer (ASER) job pack.
Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree in Jungian and Post-Jungian studies or equivalent area (or be close to completion of PhD), or equivalent professional experience or practice, coupled with a relevant Masters level degree in Analytical Psychology Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Counselling or equivalent professional experience or practice. Ideally, you will be a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council, the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis (a college of the UK Council for Psychotherapy), the Association of Child Psychotherapists, the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling or an equivalent organisation.
You will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this and a commitment to the on-going evaluation of your teaching and an ability to do this effectively, with the support of others where appropriate.
In addition, you will possess the ability to conduct and develop independent, high-quality research, with evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile with a clear publication plan for submission to future REF programmes.
A successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to play an active part in the administration of the department, and the willingness to become involved and take an equal share in extra-curricular activities within the department (e.g. open days; research student conferences; school visits etc.).
This is a permanent, part-time role on an ASER (teaching and research) contract.
