The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering isseeking to appoint Graduate Teaching Assistants.
Applications are invited from postgraduate research studentsfor GTA work on Computer Science and Electronic Engineering Modules.

Applicants must be registered for a postgraduate researchdegree at the University of Essex during all or part of the academic year2017-2018. We will not normally considercandidates for teaching who are in the first year of a PhD at Essex, unless thestudent concerned is going on to a PhD after completing an MSc at Essex, andthus already has some familiarity with the department and its procedures. We will also consider carefully whetherstudents who are having difficulty with progress on the PhD should be offered teaching.
The posts will be offered as fixed term employment contractsuntil the post holder completes or withdraws from postgraduate studies orenters further completion or an extension to completion period.
Although an overarching contract will be in place for theduration of postgraduate studies, GTAs will need to apply for individual postsand will have no entitlement to future engagements beyond their initialpost. The reason the contract is fixedterm is that these posts provide an opportunity for postgraduate researchstudents to develop interpersonal, communication and practical skills.
Main Responsibilities
Laboratory demonstration without supervision
Teaching Classes
Maintaining contact with the laboratory supervisor
Undertaking related administration duties
Attending training courses and briefing meetings
Undertaking preparation as requested by the laboratory supervisor
Undertake marking of work from a defined marking scheme
Skills andQualifications Required
Applicants should have familiarity with the subject area andthe essential skills required as per the detailed advertisement on the CSEEwebpage. https://www1.essex.ac.uk/csee/current/default.aspxand select information for Graduate Laboratory and Teaching Assistants. You should also have an undergraduate degreein a relevant subject area and be studying for PhD in a relevant area but notin further completion.
GTAs who has taught previously in the Department should holdCADENZA accreditation in order to be considered, evidence to support thisshould be submitted with your application. If the applicant has no CADENZA training they will be required to committo, attendance at workshop and are also requiredto achieve D1 by the end of the first year of teaching. Applicants should have adequate English language competencefor teaching and assessing a wide range of students who are both native andnon-native English speakers and have the ability to communicate clearly andeffectively with a wide range of students.
