DepartmentThe Institute for Analytics and Data Science (https://www.essex.ac.uk/iads/) was successfully launched in 2014 and moved into a new building in 2016. It is a pan-University Institute which brings together over 100 academics and researchers working in analytics, data science and big data from across the University. The Institute is located in the University's Science and Research Park, the Knowledge Gateway, which is an integral part of the University of Essex Colchester Campus. In the last few years, the University has been awarded over GBP 22 million for novel and multi-disciplinary projects and infrastructure in this area from Research Councils, InnovateUK, industry and other organisations. Duties of the RoleThe Institute for Analytics and Data Science (IADS) now seeks to appoint an RCUK Innovation Fellow to undertake a three-year RCUK Innovation Fellowship on "Discovering Individual and Social Preferences through Inverse Reinforcement Learning. Appointment to this post will be made as Research Fellow. The main duties of the post include: to undertake Foundational and Applied Research and high quality independent and collaborative research within the scope of the RCUK Innovation Fellowship.This opportunity will be available at either salary grade 8 (appointment will be made as Senior Research Officer), or salary grade 9 (appointment will be made as Research Fellow). At the grade 9 level there is an expectation that the candidate will carry out independent research. At the grade 8 level the successful candidate will be provided with more support and guidance when carrying out their research.The duties also include: to contribute to Public Engagement & Impact: to explore all appropriate contributions to impact and engagement activities, such as community engagement and interactions with other public sector bodies, business and the third sector. The candidate will also be required to comply with the conditions of the RCUK Fellowship, as well as develop Interdisciplinary Collaborations within IADS, to take an active role in facilitating and catalysing collaboration across disciplinary boundaries within the Institute for Analytics and Data Science. Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidates will have postdoctoral research experience (but not more than 4 year's research experience from the date of the submission of their PhD) see job-pack for further information.Applicants are also required to have a PhD (or be close to completion of PhD for the grade 8 level post) in Quantitative Social Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, or related discipline, or related professional experience.
