UK Data Archive
An exciting opportunity for a Communications Assistant has come up in the UK Data Service and UK Data Archive, based at the University of Essex. As a national partnership organisation, we curate and provide access to the largest collection of social science and population data in the UK. Funded by UK Research and Innovation through the Economic and Social Research Council, we have been a critical part of the UK’s research infrastructure since 1967.
Duties of the Role
The post holder will provide clerical and admin support to the Communication and Engagement directorate of the UK Data Service. They will help to monitor and facilitate the Comms helpdesk and workflows, co-ordinate, organise and contribute to meetings, provide general admin support across the Comms team using the Microsoft Office suite and Acrobat and undertake other clerical tasks.
The successful candidate will also build and maintain positive working relationships with all the UK Data Service staff and management, in order to increase efficiency and facilitate good communications between teams and organisations.
The post holder will be required to update their skills set by learning new systems, software etc. for example Confluence and Smartsheets. In addition, the post holder will share their knowledge and experience of processes and practices to develop new systems and procedures in the UK Data Archive.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will possess a qualification in or demonstrable experience of using Microsoft packages (Word, Excel and Outlook) at a high level of competency.
The post holder will have exceptional organisational and administrative skills and work well as part of a team and on their initiative. Previous experience of successfully working in a communications or marketing team, or similar function in an administrative role would be advantageous.
They should be able to manage competing deadlines and tasks, work as part of a team as well as on their own initiative. Experience of using social media platforms such as HooteSuite and MS Office suite would also be required.
This post is fixed-term until 30 September 2022 in the first instance due to funding. Whilst this is a full-time post, we would also consider a job share arrangement and would welcome applications from those looking to work 0.5 FTE (18 hours per week) on this basis.
