The Department of Language and Linguistics is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in the field of Psycholinguistics and related areas. The appointed candidate will be responsible for conducting research and delivering teaching in psycholinguistics at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. They will also have specialised in an area of psycholinguistics such as first language acquisition, language disorders or language processing. Expertise in related areas such as neurolinguistics will be an added advantage. They should demonstrate excellent research in an area of psycholinguistic research with demonstrable ability to set up and conduct experiments and work with contemporary statistical software such as R. The successful candidate should have a background in linguistically-informed experimental research into any aspect of the acquisition or use of human language with excellent skills in using experimental techniques such as eye-tracking and reaction-time experiments. Apart from teaching and research, the successful candidate will also contribute to the supervision of both MA and PhD students in broader areas of psycholinguistics than their own area of expertise and research.
The contract is a full time, permanent role of 36 hours per week. The start date is flexible but the successful candidate should be in post no later than 1st September 2017. The post places equal importance to excellence in teaching and in research and the successful candidate must demonstrate both an ability to offer a transformative educational experience to students and also conduct excellent research demonstrated in high quality publications and with potential for research to have a wider than academic impact.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in any area in Psycholinguistics and should be able to deliver modules in first language acquisition, language disorders, processing and experimental design and techniques, as well as specialised modules based on her or his own research (subject to discussion and approval). Teaching will centrally contribute to our MA Psycholinguistics and our BA English Language and Language Development programmes. Candidates are also expected to contribute to the administration and management of the department.
