Essex Law ClinicEssex Law Clinic was set up to provide legal services to the local community, while also providing students with invaluable experience in developing practical legal skills and gaining knowledge of how Law operates in practice. It is seeking to build on these assets to expand the number of students participating in pro bono work, the number of clients it serves and the range of services it provides. The School is looking to expand its clinical provision with the recruitment of a 0.75 FTE Lecturer (Law Clinic Legal Professional), as part of its ambitious plans to expand the activities of the Essex Law Clinic and to help develop it into a leading UK Law Clinic.Duties of the RoleWorking as part of the Law Clinic Team, based in the Essex Law Clinic, you will supervise advice and representation given to members of the public by student advisors, assist with training students and helping to develop Clinic policies, procedures and future direction. Responsibilities will also include engaging successfully and effectively in teaching and learning support roles, assessing and providing feedback to learners and to participate in, build and develop internal and external networks.In addition, you will be expected to play an active role within the Department and engage in activities beyond your own education duties and you will undertake leadership duties appropriate to career stage.A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Leadership and Citizenship, and Scholarship and Professional Practice) can be found within the job pack. Please note appointment will be made at Lecturer level.Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level degree in Law or have equivalent professional experience or practice and will either already be a member of the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or have the ability to gain professional recognition at this. You will also be qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister with 2 years PQE in one or more of the following areas: Family Law, Employment Law, Housing, and Social Welfare Benefits. You will have up to date knowledge of the law as demonstrated in recent practice or teaching and training, along with experience in teaching at undergraduate and/ or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support.
