Essex Students’ Union is an organisation that is coming out of the pandemic in a strong position and we are in the market for a new Operations Manager to oversee our bars and catering offering and help us build on our already fantastic services.

The Student Services department is here to ensure that students at Essex experience a kick ass membership and have access to high quality Venues, Retail Offerings, Events, Catering outlets and an SU run Lettings Department. They are supported by the Facilities Department who oversee maintenance and cleaning. No two days in the department are the same and the department embraces the Work Hard, Play Hard ethos. It is a fast paced, dynamic and challenging department that consistently strives to deliver its vital stats to ensure students at Essex have the best time while here.
Reporting to the Deputy Director (Services) you will be building a strategy to grow the business across our Bars and Catering Areas.

Strong management experience in a relevant field at a middle or senior level

Holds a professional or management qualification or degree in a related area, or willing to undertake
Experience of leading and inspiring others in achieving organisational objectives
Experience of all aspects of Line Management, including recruitment, development, performance management and appraisal
Previous experience of project management and evaluation
Previous experience of setting and managing budgets and producing financial and statistical reports
Evidence of successfully achieving against organisational targets
Operational knowledge of risk assessments, health and safety and safeguarding considerations in relation to relevant activities
Ability to ensure departmental compliance with GDPR Regulations
Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
Excellent problem solving, negotiating and influencing skills
Ability to build and maintain effective networks internally and externally
Evidence of continuing professional development at a senior level
Good IT skills i.e. word, access, excel
JOB ROLE SPEC
Hold (or able to hold) a Personal Licence (NCPLH) and an SIA badge
Experience managing in a Licensed trade and catering operation
Understanding of the unique Student Market
Proven ability to deliver high quality, value services to customers
Proven ability to drive Footfall through a variety of promotional techniques and experience of overseeing Marketing for a licensed trade operation
Ability to respond to changing customer needs
Proven ability to deliver exceptional Catering services
Cash handling, reconciliation and stock management experience
