Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies
The Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies was one of the foundational departments in the University of Essex and is an exciting, interdisciplinary Department, where theory and practice across a range of disciplines from creative writing to theatre, literature, filmmaking and journalism thrive alongside each other.
The BA Multimedia Journalism course at the University of Essex was launched in October 2015, and will shortly be producing its first graduates. Joint degrees in Journalism and one of a number of other subjects were introduced in 2017. The course is accredited by both the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC), and students study for and sit the exams that lead to the NCTJ Diploma. We are one of the top courses for proportion of students achieving the Diploma. One of our students won the 2020 NCTJ Student Scoop of the Year award.
