UK Data ArchiveAt the UK Data Archive we acquire, curate and preserve the UK's largest collection of digital social and economic data. We then make it available to researchers, teachers, think tanks, government researchers and businesses around the world through the UK Data Service, the UKs flagship portal for research resources.
The Role and DutiesWe are seeking to appoint a Senior Software Developer to be part of a small team that is responsible for the design and implementation of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) components, plus the maintenance and migration to the SOA of legacy databases.
Duties will include design, implementation, quality assurance and maintenance of web services, SQL-based data storage components and NoSQL-based data storage components. In addition you will be involved in the creation and maintenance of programming specifications and other technical documentation, and contributing to upskilling external audiences in a range of technical best practices for web services and data storage and retrieval.

Qualifications and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in a computing or related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
You will need to have experience of: designing, implementing and maintaining RESTful web services; using ASP.NET C#; using a Continuous Integration and Testing approach for software development; and developing utility scripts in a production environment. We are looking for an individual who has good interpersonal and communication skills and is able to quickly adopt and use new tools, technologies and ways of working.

This is a fixed-term, full-time position until 31st March 2021.
The UK Data Archive is ISO 27001, certified for Information Security Management. This post holds specific duties with regards to information security and is therefore subject to a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check.
