The Academic Section is part of the University’s Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the institution. The main directorates of the Academic Section are: Academic Services and Student Life.
The Student Life directorate is responsible for leading and coordinating many elements of the student experience which support the educational aspects of student life. This includes Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity, Student Services and Student Development. The directorate is predominantly student-facing and the success of its delivery relies on ensuring student benefit is paramount in our approach and that services and support are delivered in a coherent and student-focused manner.
You will be a part of the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity service, which is responsible for providing a professional and proactive service for students within a wider healthy and inclusive environment. We are looking for someone with a professional approach who can support with our vision for a proactive and diverse services aimed at supporting students to thrive and get the most out of their time at Essex.
Duties of the Role
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the delivery of our information, advice and guidance services and provide initial response to students and staff in response to student wellbeing enquiries received by a variety of methods, including Live chat, Zoom, email and telephone.
Working as part of a diverse and busy team, you will provide proactive and professional support to the Student Wellbeing and Inclusion Service within Student Support. You will also play a role in supporting implementation of the commitments and actions detailed within the Continuous Improvement Plan for the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service.
This post is on a temporary basis until December 2021 to cover a period of business demand which is above generally accepted fluctuations.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants should possess a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grades A-C or equivalent, including English Language and Maths. The successful candidate will have excellent administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to deal effectively with multiple priorities to meet deadlines. You will be able to work sensitively with confidential information and respond to telephone and email enquiries calmly and confidently, including those from distressed or troubled individuals. You will have excellent communication skills, including a good standard of written English, and be open to new ideas and ways of working.
