UK Data Archive
The UK Data Archive (UKDA) is the UK’s largest digital collection of social sciences and population research data. UKDA is the lead partner of the UK Data Service (UKDS), which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to meet the data needs of researchers, students and teachers from all sectors, including academia, central and local government, charities and foundations, independent research centres, think tanks, business consultants and the commercial sector. The UKDS has a long-standing international reputation as a leading social science repository that provides data curation and dissemination services and long-term digital preservation services to the research community.
This is a permanent professorial appointment in the UK Data Archive. The role is as the Deputy Director of the UK Data Archive for a renewable three-year term.
Duties of the Role
The Deputy Director provides strategic leadership and management for the UKDA, including enhancing the UKDA’s national and international reputation and strengthening the UKDA’s relationships with key stakeholders and collaborators. The Deputy Director makes a significant contribution to ensuring the effective leadership of the UKDA as the lead organisation in the UK Data Service.
Along with Developing and implementing a strategic approach to enable the UKDA to contribute to the University’s strategic educational and research objectives, the Deputy Director will pursue research of internationally recognised importance and quality that will make a significant contribution to the University’s submission to future Research Excellence Framework exercises, and lead in successful grant applications.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will possess a relevant doctoral-level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice, have evidence of research and broader academic leadership and a sustained track record in publishing internationally excellent research. You should also have evidence of securing research funding/undertaking major research projects as Principal Investigator.
Evidence of engagement and collaboration with a range of external stakeholders is essential such as UKRI and national statistics bodies (ONS, UKSA etc).
You will demonstrate an ability for inspirational leadership and setting strategic direction coupled with an ability to build a leadership team which supports excellence in education and research, ensuring continuity in departmental leadership with a consultative approach within the Archive.
