Lecturer (Practice Educator), School of Health and Social Care
Job description
School of Health and Social Care
The School of Health & Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff (approx. 75) include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over
2 campuses, based at Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.
In April 2017 we were awarded a silver Athena SWAN award which recognises the commitment the School has toward equality and development of an inclusive culture, promoting dignity and respect. These are, of course, qualities that are also endorsed by the values of the NHS constitution with which all staff and students engage. Overseen by our active Equality and Diversity committee we continually strive to improve the embedding of policy in our working together.
We have a high reputation for our innovative educational delivery of Nursing programmes (in the top 15 in the National Student Survey for overall student satisfaction, 100% Employability, ranked gold in 2017 for the Teaching Excellence Framework, and named University of the Year 2018). We aim for excellence in research as well as in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
Duties of the Role
The School of Health and Social Care is seeking to appoint a part-time, fixed term, Lecturer in Nursing focussing on practice education.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver excellent education, to contribute to the administration and management of the School, and to the local, regional and international profile of the School.
We would particularly welcome applications from individuals that are keen to contribute actively to excellence in education by supporting the interpersonal relationships between students and their placement providers.
This is a part-time (14.4 hours per week), fixed-term post until 31 July 2020.
Due to the nature of the work, this appointment is subject to a criminal record check, known as a Disclosure.
Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants must have a relevant Bachelor's degree in Nursing and professional experience and/or practice in the field of Nursing, as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. You should have current registration with the NMC in Nursing, with a clear record to practice and have experience in Nursing clinical practice, meeting the requirements for revalidation with the NMC.
Applicants should have a strong commitment to team working and to enhancing the contribution of both education and evidence based practice in Nursing.
We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as male or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Health & Social Care.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
