Academic SectionThe Academic Section is part of the University's Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University's commitment to excellence in education across the institution. The main directorates of the Academic Section are: Academic Services and Student Life. The Academic Services Directorate is responsible for delivering effective, responsive and customer-focused academic services across the University. The Directorate supports the development and implementation of the University's Education Strategy and policy, including the annual Education Action Plans, leads the delivery of University-wide projects, and develops, reviews and implements effective policy and systems in support of the University's academic mission.
The Role and dutiesWe are looking for a professional and enthusiastic individual to join our new Higher Apprenticeships Team as our new Apprenticeships Officer.
The Government has committed to delivering 3 million apprenticeships by 2020 and in April 2017 introduced the Apprenticeship Levy. The University of Essex is on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers and with ambitious plans to grow both Higher and Degree Apprenticeships, it has been decided to establish a new team within the University's Academic Section to develop and support the delivery of Degree and Higher Apprenticeships. This post will play a key role in the new team.
The post will offer the opportunity for a committed and flexible individual to gain a wide range of experience working with colleagues across the University and with employers who are an integral part of the Apprenticeship programme.
Qualifications and skills requiredYou will either already have or have the capacity to develop relevant expertise and be directly involved in working with academic departments and employers on operational delivery and in developing new programmes, supporting the submission of tenders and bids. You will build relationships and develop networks across the University in support of the successful delivery of Higher Apprenticeships. You will have an awareness of the external regulatory requirements and support the University with its compliance ensuring that data submissions are undertaken, deadlines are met, and contracts are processed.
You will have significant and recent administrative experience in a relevant environment with excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines. An honours degree (or substantial equivalent experience) is essential.
