The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE)The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and dynamic department in the Faculty of Science and Health. The School is internationally known for its research in a range of areas and offers an excellent education to its students. The Communications and Networks group is the largest research group in CSEE. The group is currently expanding and now wishes to appoint two Lecturers, one in the area of Machine Learning and the other in Machine Learning for Network Security. We are particularly looking for applicants who have expertise in machine learning and network security/privacy. Duties of the RoleThe successful candidate will be expected to carry out a programme of independent research in the areas of communications and networking leading to the publication of research articles or other research outputs, which can be returned under the Research Excellence Framework. You will deliver excellent research and education, generate external research income, contribute to the administration and management of the School, and to the local, regional and international profile of the Department.The post includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in electronic engineering and computer science, along with designing, planning and delivering learning in creative and innovative ways supervising student projects, fieldwork and placements.We aim for excellence in education as well as research and are looking for individuals who can contribute to both.A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship) can be found within the respective job packs below.Skills and Qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level research degree, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. You will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, and of designing and planning learning activities. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes, and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability and willingness to engage in impact, knowledge exchange and outreach activities.These are permanent, full-time posts on an ASER (teaching and research) contract.
