The Estate Management section is looking to recruit a Maintenance Chargehand. For this post the candidate will be required to oversee the daily management of the University's Electrical Maintenance Craftspersons, organising work to ensure maximum efficiency via a computerised job management system and recording all works carried out.
The post holder will be expected to diagnose and repair faults in complicated installations, plans and equipment, and additionally to undertake inspection and testing to current BS 7671 17th Edition of complex LV systems. The post holder will also be involved with the Planned and Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule of works, ensuring that plant and equipment is running smoothly. Compliance with the University of Essex LV policy is essential, and the post holder will be expected to become an Authorised Person (AP) for working on electrical systems.
The post holders will develop and maintain a thorough working of the electrical systems in the University, and will be expected to pass on knowledge and experience to the Electrical Craftspersons, leading by example and best practice. Ensure that any untoward issues are reported to the electrical supervisor.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised and registered CITB or EITB apprenticeship (or equivalent) and will have completed an NVQ in Installing and Commissioning Electrical Systems and Equipment at level 3 (or equivalent). It is essential that the post holder is able to demonstrate previous experience of working with the installation, maintenance and testing of electrical services and with a good knowledge of relevant regulations.
It would be advantageous if the successful candidate has previous experience of managing staff, although full training will be given.
Hours of work are 36 hours per week, to be worked over a shift system of 7am - 7pm. Weekend working is expected to be 1 weekend in 6 but flexibility is required. The post holder will be expected to cover the 'on-call' rota, which is anticipated to be 1 week in 12.
