DepartmentThe Department of Psychology is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. We occupy purpose-built facilities including state-of-the-art EEG/ERP, eye-tracking, psycho-physiology and computerised testing labs. Adjacent to the building, academics also have access to the facilities housed in the Centre for Brain Science (CBS), which additionally includes TMS, tDCS, virtual reality, pain and human sexuality testing facilities. We are an outward looking department, internationally known for its excellence in research in a range of areas, with clear links between our different research groups. We offer an excellent education to our students. All our undergraduate courses, and our MSc Psychology conversion course, are accredited by the British Psychological Society. The department is entering an exciting stage of continued planned growth and we are looking for ambitious individuals who will work with colleagues within the department as well as with staff across the Faculty of Science and Health to help enhance our reputation further.Duties of the RoleThe appointed candidate will play a leading role in inspiring our research community and contribute to world-class research across the University.Duties will include, to contribute actively to education provision made by the department/ faculty at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (e.g. through the development of new modules and programmes, curriculum review processes etc.), providing strategic leadership in education within the department, faculty and/or wider sector, pursue world leading and internationally excellent research activity as well as to publish research outcomes of an internationally excellent standard.Duties also include to undertake significant and strategic leadership responsibilities within the department/ school in agreement with the Head of Department as well as to supervise/ manage and mentor post-doctoral researchers, research students and other staff engaged in research.Skills and qualifications requiredApplicants should hold a relevant doctoral-level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice as well as a distinguished academic record, including internationally excellent research. You will be expected to have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or ability to gain this at an appropriate level within a defined period of appointment.You will also have a strong, sustained record of academic publication at international or world-leading levels of recognition, with evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research excellence Framework (REF) programmes.Candidates are also expected to have a substantial record of internally excellent, world leading research in the field.Appointment to this post will be made as Professor (R), on a Teaching and Research (ASER) contract.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
