The Institute for Analytics and Data Science
The Institute for Analytics and Data Science (https://www.essex.ac.uk/iads/) was successfully launched in 2014 and moved into a new building in 2016. It is the pan-University Institute which brings together over 100 academics and researchers working in analytics, data science and big data from across the University. The Institute is located in the University's Science and Research Park, the Knowledge Gateway, which is an integral part of the University of Essex Colchester Campus. In the last few years, the University has been awarded over GBP 22 million for novel and multi-disciplinary projects and infrastructure in this area from Research Councils, InnovateUK, industry and other organisations. In 2016, the University was awarded the first UNESCO Chair in Analytics and Data Science, held by Professor Fasli. As a result of the award of the UNESCO Chair, the University is also working with a range of national and international collaborators in the areas of data science and big data, in developing and transitioning countries.
Duties of the Role
Building on significant investment in analytics and data science at the University of Essex, this is a very exciting appointment as a Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, with a three year secondment as Artificial Intelligence (AI) Industry Fellow to the Institute for Analytics and Data Science (IADS).
During the secondment as AI Industry Fellow in IADS, you will focus on undertaking research, developing research proposals, developing and undertaking collaborative projects with businesses, knowledge exchange, and supporting analytics and data science training programmes throughout the year. You will also undertake teaching and supervision duties within the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering.
On completion of the secondment, the appointee will return to the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, undertaking the normal range of education (teaching), research and leadership/citizenship duties of an Academic Staff with Education and Research (ASER) member of staff.
Skills and Qualifications required
Applications are invited from candidates with an excellent publications record and an internationally leading profile in the field. A PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering or related discipline is essential. Please see the job pack for more information.
You should also have potential of excellence in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level as demonstrated by experience in developing teaching materials, administering and delivering teaching or demonstrable potential for achieving this.
