Lecturer (Occupational Therapy), School of Health and Social Care
Job description
School of Health and Social Care
The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. Our academic members of staff (approx. 75) include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists.
The School is run over 2 campuses, based at Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses. In April 2017 we were awarded a silver Athena SWAN award which recognises the commitment the School has toward equality and development of an inclusive culture, promoting dignity and respect.
Duties of the Role
The School of Health and Social Care is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Occupational Therapy.
This role will require management, administration, supervision, and support for staff alongside, assessment and teaching of students on our existing modules, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching in Occupational Therapy. We have a high reputation for our innovative educational delivery of Occupational Therapy programmes (in the top 15 in the National Student Survey for overall student satisfaction, joint 1st for Employability in the Times Good University Guide, and ranked gold in 2017 for the Teaching Excellence Framework). We aim for excellence in research as well as in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
The post also includes a significant contribution to our Occupational Therapy courses at Colchester campus (these are run at UG and PG level). It is expected that as a senior member of staff you would support the Subject Lead and Programme Leads and undertake module leadership and teaching/ assessment duties.
Due to the nature of the work, this appointment is subject to a criminal record check, known as a Disclosure.
Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate should have a relevant doctoral level research degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD, as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate. You should also be currently registered with the HCPC as an Occupational Therapist, with a clear record to practice and have experience as a Practice Educator and support of students in practice settings.
You will be able to demonstrate evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
We would particularly welcome applications from individuals that are keen to develop research, drawing from, and building upon, existing research expertise within the school and applicant's own research profile.
In addition, we welcome applications for those seeking to undertake this post as part-time/ job share to balance their time in clinical and academic practice and will explore these options with those invited to interview.
We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as male or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Health & Social Care.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
