The School of Health and Social CareThe School has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. Our academic members of staff include dental professionals, social workers, nurses, allied health care professionals, psychologists and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses, based at Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses. We are at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in. We work in partnership with various people, who offer us their expertise and experience, making us a team of people who truly understand what is needed from health and social care professionals and services– now and in the future.
The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, an intention to prepare for submission to Unit Assessment 3 (research focusing on Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the introduction of new courses, including the Nurse Associate Apprenticeship, and Masters in Global Public Health. We are also expanding and building new and innovative areas for student study, including new clinical skills spaces, consultation rooms and study areas.
We are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in Nursing on a fixed-term basis to join the Division of Nursing, one of the seven divisions in the School of Health and Social Care.
Duties of the RoleThe purpose of this post will be to play an active part in the development of our new nursing associate programme as well as delivery and development of the existing adult nursing programmes in the School. You will complement the existing team in the delivery of the innovative pre-registration programmes in nursing. You may also have the opportunity to input into our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio, as well as into other courses offered across the School.
This post is fixed term or secondment until October 22. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in exploring education and gaining experience in developing a new programme.
Your ongoing development is important to us, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with your Head of Division, the School’s Director of Staff Development and Wellbeing, and the Dean, to enhance your potential and achieve your aims. Duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, and developing a broad understanding of how such activities support student learning and design, plan and deliver learning in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level.

Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidates will have relevant professional experience or practice and have NMC registration.
It is essential that candidates have a commitment to uphold the NMC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and to exhibit professional behaviours and attitudes in keeping with NHS values. Along with having experience in nursing and the ability to keep up to date with the current practice of nursing, teaching and legislation.
