Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS)
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) of the University of Essex. The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students.
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematics to work with Dr. Murat Akman on a research project focusing on linear and non-linear elliptic PDEs (Laplace and p-Laplace equations) and their applications in Minkowski-type problems and Brunn-Minkowski-type inequalities.
This Senior Research Officer post (equivalent to Postdoctoral Research Fellow post in other universities) is a 2-year, full-time and fixed-term position, available from 30th September 2022 (or as soon as possible thereafter) until the 29th of September 2024. This research project entitled “Stability of Brunn-Minkowski inequalities and Minkowski type problems for nonlinear capacity” is funded by the New Investigator Award Scheme of the Royal Society and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the United Kingdom.
The main duties of this post are to develop variational methods for linear and nonlinear elliptic PDEs, and study regularity and free boundary regularity for solutions to these PDEs in non-smooth domains. You will also investigate Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities and stability of these inequalities and Minkowski-type problems associated to linear and nonlinear elliptic PDEs.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Essex has achieved a formidable expansion in the last 3 years. The successful candidate will be part of the newly created research group in Analysis and Mathematical Physics. The group provides an ideal collaborative environment to engage with local experts in analysis of PDEs, spectral/scattering theory, and symmetry analysis of PDEs. Our offering of research seminars and our close distance to London area mathematical community also contribute to an excellent research environment and offer outstanding opportunities for networking with leading academics from within and beyond the researcher’s own field.
You should have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant area of mathematics. We are looking for someone with a strong background in analysis of linear and/or nonlinear elliptic PDEs.
