The Group Accountant sits within the Financial Accounting and Capital team in the wider Finance, Planning and Data Insight section which has responsibility for managing the University's income and expenditure, ensuring we get value for money in all financial activity and that we comply with all statutory and regulatory requests. Responsibility extends to the collection and sharing of information and understanding to help the University achieve its strategic aims.
The post of Group Accountant is a great opportunity to join a high performing, talented and professional team that provide the lead on accounting for some of the Universities subsidiary companies.
Duties of the RoleThe role will take a professional lead on subsidiary accounting and the consolidation of subsidiary companies within the University of Essex group, ensure that all subsidiary companies are properly administered and ensure compliance with policy, charity law, company law, and other relevant legislation and regulation.
The post holder will be mainly responsible for the financial management and administrative oversight of some of the subsidiary undertakings, ensuring the financial interaction between the entities is recorded on a sound financial basis and ensure full consolidation into the University of Essex group accounts.
In addition, you will also provide support to other projects being undertaken by the University or it’s subsidiaries. Duties may include producing budgets, cash flow information and supporting the preparation of business cases.

Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate should hold a CCAB level qualification or be working towards it, or have substantial equivalent professional experience.
You should have strong IT skills, especially regarding the use of spreadsheets and financial management systems, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Strong communication skills are an essential element for the role holder and the ability to work to demanding deadlines.
