Since its inception a little over a decade ago, the basketball performance programme at the University of Essex has developed into one of the most highly regarded in the U.K.
Our Essex Rebels teams sit atop an extensive pyramid of junior and senior basketball activities and community engagement, and our award-winning gamedays attract large, passionate crowds comprised of our students alongside members of the local and wider communities.
The Essex Rebels teams compete in professional leagues (SLBW, BCB) at weekends, whilst our student teams compete in the BUCS Premier Division. The teams are comprised predominantly of student-athletes, combining elite-level sport with continued education at a top 30 U.K. University. Our performance sport programme provides a training environment and support services that enable these student-athletes to maximise their talent whilst offering the academic flexibility to achieve excellence in both sport and studies.
Basketball at the University of Essex is based at the £12 million, 1655-seat Essex Sport Arena, one of the best facilities in the U.K., and which is also home to the academic school of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, ranked in the top-10 nationally for sports science and physiotherapy degree courses.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and ambitious, full-time basketball performance coach to join our basketball programme, working directly with our elite women’s team, whilst also providing leadership for the wider basketball activities.
Essex Rebels isn’t just about success on the court, and whilst the Basketball Performance Coach will be primarily focused on sporting performance outcomes, you’ll also be an important member of staff in a basketball ecosystem that engages communities, raises aspirations and improves lives.
If you share our excitement for the growth, challenges, and opportunities that this important work will bring then please do get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you.
